Library Student Journal Emerging Leaders request

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Library Student Journal believes that LIS students have new and exciting
ideas. We see information needs in new places (and new worlds). We can,
and should, make a vital contribution to the LIS field while we are
still students.

Do you have a colleague who is doing innovative research? Have you met
someone at a conference whose blog you read daily because it inspires
you to think in new ways? Has a classmate come up with a creative
solution to address a current problem in your local library?

If so, we want to hear about these people!

The deadline for submission is March 31, 2007. (Sorry - current LSJ
staff members are not eligible for this award.)

To nominate an emerging leader, please send us the following:
1. Full name, school affiliation and email address, of nominee.
2. Reason for nomination. Try to be as specific as possible - which
project, event, concept makes this person an emerging leader.
3. Your full name, affiliation and email address.

Send your nomination to librarystudentjournal [at] gmail [dot] com, and
be sure to put “Nomination” in the subject line.

The special issue will appear in April 2008.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Cheers everyone!

Society for Scholarly Publishing Conference Travel Grant Program

If you are a student in a publishing or library/information science
program, or have been working in this field for three years or less, please
consider applying for a grant to attend the SSP Annual Meeting (see details
below). If you’re not a potential candidate, but know someone who is,
please share this announcement with your fellow-student, colleague, or
protégé.

SSP’s travel grant program has grants for up to ten successful applicants.
The awards will support travel to and attendance at SSP’s 30th Annual
Meeting, and membership for 2008. Read about the experiences of previous
grant winners at
http://www.sspnet.org/News/It_Was_Such_an_Amazing_Experien/news.aspx. The
travel grant program is designed to introduce students of publishing and
information science and early career publishing professionals to the many
educational and networking opportunities available at the popular and
informative SSP annual meeting.

Successful applicants will be granted free registration at the Annual
Meeting and will be eligible for reimbursement of up to $1,000 for travel
and lodging expenses incurred to attend the meeting. Applications must be
completed online (see the link to the online form at http://www.sspnet.org
.) The application deadline is March 7, 2008. Grant awardees will be
selected and notified by March 31, 2008.

The SSP Board has developed several supporting programs that will help
grant awardees optimize their experience. Awardees will be paired with
mentors who hold senior management positions within SSP member
organizations. Mentors will help grantees plug into the educational and
networking opportunities available at the Annual Meeting. Additionally,
the meeting program will offer several opportunities designed to engage
those who are relatively new to the industry.

The 30th Annual Meeting for the Society for Scholarly Publishing will be
